A passenger train carrying troops bound for Greenville derailed after a trestle near Camp Jackson collapsed. Seven soldiers died and ten were injured as cars were mangled and passengers thrown about in the wreck.
Seven soldiers died and ten were injured when a troop train crossing a trestle near Camp Jackson collapsed in heavy rain. The 321st Infantrymen, mostly from North and South Carolina, were being transferred to Greenville. officials delayed naming the dead pending a full roster check.
Lisbon dispatch reports police halted a coup against Portugal's new republican government at Operato. Conspirators were arrested and sixty three bombs seized. The plot, attributed to the same faction that disrupted elections, led to Major Paes being proclaimed president at a municipal hall and later receiving a large ovation from troops.
Ottawa Ontario May 10. Men of 19 years of age who are unmarried or widowers without children have been called to register for military service by the Canadian government on or before June 1. They will not be placed in active service before July 1.
