Armed Japanese volunteers move into Amur province to protect Japanese residents from Bolshevik rioters after clashes near Blago Viesh Tchensk. Initial reports claimed over 100 deaths, later revised to far fewer, with reinforcements ordered from Esit Shiar. The capital Blago Viesh Tchensk rests on the Amur river, a gold mining hub with about 35 000 inhabitants. Tsit Sihar lies in Manchuria near the Mongolian frontier on the Nonni River. The Treasury Department may seek remedies to finance such operations.

New York report ties Mrs Ernie Reisinger to Count Robert De Clairmont amid espionage arrests of two titled men and two women. Reisinger says she met the Count last summer, attended dinners and dances, and believed authorities erred. She claims the Count presented her and introduced Mme Nix, while denying any espionage knowledge.
In London on March 20 the House of Lords planned a fresh session on the proposed League of Nations. Earl Carson was expected to open the debate, sparked by Lord Parmoor’s resolution endorsing the league’s principle. Lord Lansdowne urged including central empires in any future international league.
Latest returns show Irvine Lenroot and James Thompson tightly matched for the Republican nomination. The race remains unsettled as figures from the senatorial primary indicate a close contest for the G O P ticket.
Milwaukee and state returns show La Follette aligned Thompson leading Lenroot in a tight Republican contest with Lenroot closing gaps as Milwaukee votes shift. Near Washington March 20 Holland's reply to the ultimatum served by England and the United States reached the State department today. Its contents were not revealed but there were indications it was satisfactory and that the seizure of all Dutch shipping in American ports was imminent. In New York alone 5,000 American sailors stood ready to depart as Dutch ships lay idle awaiting word. Vance McCormick and Frank L Polk moved to the State Department upon the reply's arrival.
