German efforts to gain ground have been smashed in battles on both the Montdidier and Aisne Marne fronts. Heavy artillery fire continues at numerous points along the lines as fighting remains at a standstill.

Paris June 14 Satulo Duval of Rensselaer Indiana became the first ambulance driver to seize a German prisoner. His vehicle broke down north of Chateau Thierry as he tinkered and saw a hidden German fleeing. Unarmed Duval rushed forward with a wrench, forced surrender, then took the rifle and turned the prisoner over to American doughboys amid praise for the brave act.
Passengers arriving on an American steamer from South America said four destroyers chased a German submarine off the Florida coast. Sea planes escorted the liner as it zigzagged toward safety. Nineteen survivors from sunk ships were rescued at sea, claiming the submarine was U 151 commanded by Capt Neustiet.
Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels urged American allegiance and warned that America is for Americans only during Flag Day exercises in Albany New York. He spoke to thousands at Lincoln Park after a grand parade led by the Blue Devils of France and Sousa's Marine Band.

It notes that dependency from marriage for a registrant now 21 since June 5, 1917 and married since the introduction of the joint resolution in Congress January 15 1918 will not defer classification. From the Marne front June 13 the Americans repelled a German assault at Belleau Wood and Bouresches. German storm troops supported by Krupp guns and heavy artillery were checked as American infantry attacked from ruins and held the line with bayonet and machine gun fire. German losses were heavy. scattered pockets penetrated toward Bouresches station but were driven back with no American casualties from bayonets.
Washington reports that two complete American divisions, under American commanders, are now facing Germans on the western front. Remaining Union troops in France work with French and English forces, with hopes to form four or five separate divisions and establish complete aviation and artillery elements in action.
