Captain Christie commander of the vessel is the last to leave the sunken cruiser. Men in boats cheer him as he jumps overboard. The "Star Spangled Banner" is sung as the cruiser sinks to a watery grave.
Sunk off Fire Island the armored cruiser San Diego reportedly left several sailors dead. Officials in Washington cited mine indications while Navy sources noted no torpedo wake or periscope sighting. Survivors reached Brooklyn Navy Yard and coastwise lanes remain under armed escort as troop movement to Europe continues.
London July 20 report says the former Czar of Russia was shot on July 16 and executed by a council in control of the Ural region. The dispatch claims the sentence and execution occurred on the specified date.

Washington July 20 The steam ship San Jacinto escorted by a naval vessel arrived at an Atlantic port with the crew of the Osterdijk sunk in a collision with the Jacinto on July 10 eight hundred miles off the Atlantic coast. All on board the Osterdijk are reported saved and being sent to the receiving ship at Boston.
New York Board of Aldermen dispatch a cablegram to Gen. John J. Pershing commander of American forces in France. They express hope that the victory signals a speedy and victorious end to the war for freedom and humanity.
New York July 20 jury in the John O Leary conspiracy case aiding his brother Jeremiah to escape from New York was discharged at one o clock this afternoon after failing to reach a verdict. The panel had been out 25 hours.
Major General Peyton C. March releases weekly statement detailing ongoing troop movements in France. The Warren Regiment participates as Allied forces press the big Franco American offensive.
Gen Peyton C March notes six American divisions and two National Guard regiments, including the 28th, in action near Soissons. Reports claim 17,000 German prisoners and 360 guns captured as the offensive widens on a 22 mile battlefront with heavy artillery fire around Soissons and Rheims.
Paris reports Franco American forces between the Aisne and Marne captured five villages Molloy Villers Helon Neuilly St Front Licy Clignon and Vierzy plus a wood. South of the Marne German forces were pushed back toward Fossey and Deuilly as lines advanced. Meteren and other gains noted in British sector with 436 Germans taken. Italian forces claim mounts St Abel and Cornodi Cavento with prisoners and booty.
French and American counter offensive between the Aisne and Marne rivers gains momentum with Neuilly St Front seized and German artillery and prisoner counts rising. Allies push the German line west of the Marne toward Fossoy and Deuilly while unofficial reports place Soissons in doubt. By mid afternoon 18 940 prisoners and 364 guns reported as the drive straightens the front from Belleau to Fontenoy along the Aisne and surrounding sectors.
London dispatch reports the Franco American attack in the Aisne Marne district has reached nine villages. French forces and Americans advanced toward Ville Montoire Percy and Tingy near Soissons as heavy fighting persisted east of Prunay. About 18 800 prisoners are reported as of nine p.m. yesterday with the French occupying their old battle line.
