Civil War fighting in Berlin subsided as government troops gained control on Sunday. The Spartacus cause is now viewed as a lost issue and the last stronghold has been driven from the city returning it to normal life.
Berlin battles with Spartacides end in government control. Loyal troops recaptured the Liebknecht and Vorwaerts buildings, Rosa Luxemburg arrested, and reports say 2,100 Spartacist casualties with 600 killed and 1,506 wounded. A state of siege spreads to Bavaria as clashes flare in Dresden and Hamburg. Nine hundred to two thousand casualties noted across the week.
Batavia New York January 13 officials from the Public Service Commission and the New York Central Railroad opened investigations into the South Byron wreck that killed 21 people and injured nine. Railroad says either signal failure or block system error caused the collision with the Wolverine while it waited for an extra engine. Engineer Friedly claimed a clear road and said the first warning was a torpedo blast 25 car lengths away. Most identified victims were New York City residents. thirteen dead remain unidentified. two women among the dead and several injured residents are being treated in Batavia hospitals.

The plan aims to prevent Bolshevism abroad and stabilise postwar Europe, with emphasis on Poland Austria Hungary and the Balkans. Congress faces tight deadlines and partisan disputes over how the money should be spent and broader postwar policy.
John Edwin Nevin reports from Paris that the first meeting of the Supreme Inter Allied Council at the foreign office failed to agree on peace conference procedures. A second session is set for 3 p.m. The absence of Colonel House and differing views on transparency and fourteen Wilson principles dominated, with leaders like Wilson, Clemenceau and Lloyd George present.
Berlin reports Secretary of State Mathias Erzberger left to urge renewal of the armistice. London dispatches say renewal terms will grant Marshal Foch and Allied commanders wider initiative and power if needed.

Harry R Ed wards brother of Major General Clarence KR Edwards and son of a former Cleveland mayor died early today at his home from influenza followed by bronchitis after several weeks illness. General Edwards and other family members were at his bedside. born Christmas day 1561 he studied at Harvard and later led his father’s wholesale grocery firm.
Chicago reports that Attorney General Gregory's resignation upsets Chicago Democrats plans for a mayoral run by United States Senator J Hamilton Lewis. Lewis was seen as a likely Gregory successor, leaving the mayoral fate in question as the party faces an unsettled candidate list.

Fire Lieutenant Oscar Pederson was drowned and three firefighters injured as they battled a two story office building blaze in Chicago. Pederson entered a gas filled area, fell into a water-filled shaft from a broken main, and the building suffered an estimated $30,000 loss.

Washington reports three transports the Rochambeau Lapland and Cretic are bringing nearly 6 000 officers and men of the American expeditionary forces homeward. The Rochambeau and Cretic sailers are due January 20 and the Lapland January 19 with arrivals in New York City after February 9.
