London April 6 Captain J L Trollope of the Royal Flying Corps who shot down six German airplanes in one day is reported missing. Also Lieut Colonel Lord Farnham of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, a noted battalion commander, is reported missing after early Pi cardy battle actions.
London reports that in the Picardy clash the Germans led nearly 200,000 troops against France with about 30,000 guns in action on both sides. Including active fighters, reinforcements and reserves, estimates place total forces near 3,000,000 along the 0 mile front.
Rome reports Italy prepared to meet any Austro German offensive. Positions along the Piave river and Asiago plateau have been strengthened, troops reorganized, and morale high. Authorities expect a Teutonic renewal, with keen interest in the Picardy battle and confidence in an allied victory.
Washington April 6. The house authorized the coining of 200,000 fifty-cent pieces to honor the 100th anniversary of Illinois admission to the Union.

Albany April 6 John Colby an inmate was killed Herbert Martin a guard suffered a fractured skull and Michael Tobin another keeper was seriously injured when John Brown an inmate at Mattewan State Hospital ran amuck seizing a heavy lead pipe and striking Colby fatally.
A fire at Fort Williams Cantonment in Portland Maine started in the barracks and destroyed three buildings. Officers deny an explosion preceded the blaze while investigators pursue the cause. All soldiers in the barracks escaped unharmed due to strict discipline.
The body of Lieut Richard McCall Elliott, second in command of the destroyer Manley, arrives in an American port draped in an American flag and wreaths from British officers. Elliott was killed when depth bombs exploded aboard the Manley after a collision with a British destroyer.

London April 6. Messages from King George and Premier Lloyd George were read at a luncheon honoring the first anniversary of the United States entering the war.
President Wilson nominated Edward R. Stettinius as second assistant secretary of war and Frederick F. Keppel as third assistant secretary of war. The posts were created by a recent act of Congress and confirmed today.
Washington April 6. Wisconsin loyalty fight moved to Washington as Wheeler P. Bloodgood of the Wisconsin Loyalty Legion and Next of Kin met with the department of justice and Ways and Means officials. The group plans nation wide activities and limits membership to those with relatives overseas, aiming to cooperate with government agencies to stamp out treason in high and low places.
Twelve members of the women's overseas hospital corps who left Paris to prepare a front base were cut off by the Picardy advance. They reached a safe distance and began work in the Picardy battle zone as Dr. Alice Gregory reported to the National Women's Suffrage Association.
