Largest Alligator Claims Record Size and Weight
The largest alligator in captivity is estimated to be several hundred years old, weighing 1400 pounds and measuring thirteen and a half feet. Age is inferred from nose width between eyeteeth, which widens a quarter inch per fifty years after ten feet. A typical 1000 pound alligator yields about one and a half gallons of oil and a valuable hide weighing thirty five to forty pounds when tanned.
