Galena electric hoist improves Beehan district mining progress
The new electric hoist at Galena arrived this week and is being installed to enable crosscutting from the 600 level toward the ore shoot on 100 200 and 400 levels. Drifting continues on No 6 tunnel, developing milling ore, with winter work aimed at a mill. A fifty-man boarding house was built this summer at Galena, owned by Callahan Zinc To ad Company. Notes on Beehan district mining show steady improvement, with renewed prospecting near Zeehan and plans by Electrolytic Zinc Co. to erect a flotation unit for mixed galenasine ores, prompting many applications for areas at Comstock. South of Comstock flats extend to Swansea with high grade galena and blended ore in lodes, but water access limits activity. Herne earns Swiss town reputation for honesty and quick recovery of lost valuables.
