Rich Mine Operations in Wood River District Highlight Independence
State mine inspector Robert N. Bell reports the Independence mine, owned by Federal Mining Smelting, as the district's premier operation. It employs 75 men, yields 12 to 16 tons daily, and links to North Star mill via a long tunnel. The joint setup promises expanded output up to 200 tons at the new Star mill, with engineering feats noted and ample safety measures. The report also covers the Tiger Poorman group deed to Hecla and a separate Russell and Mono Fraction conveyance, clarifying price and trespass release details.

Metal Market Outlook Darkens After Week of Declines
The Engineering and Mining Journal reviews the week ending November 10 and finds little cheer in metals. Lead prices fall from 8 to 6.5 cents as sales decline. zinc demand weakens with ongoing price cuts. Producers resist current prices while stock markets slump. Costs no longer guide pricing, and copper and zinc trade below production costs. A recent uptick seems to have faded after the election, with any improvement expected only by next spring.
