House Bill 10 Changes the Assessment Year

Washington dispatch says the house committee on mines favors a bill to move mining claim assessment work to the fiscal year starting July 1. The measure has broad support with no visible opposition, addressing procrastination and aligning enforcement with public welfare. Davey Returns From Salt Lake City Mining Visit

Frank J. Davey assayer chemist and ore buyer returned from Salt Lake City where he accompanied E R Day as a witness in a suit over ore shipments to a Utah smelter. He noted Salt Lake City has grown and prospered, an active mining center less affected by the mining downturn. He observed mining districts tributary to Salt Lake City are active on a curtailed basis except Bingham Canyon where Utah Copper is idle.

Duluth Friend recalls James F Callahan in old west style

Gust Carlson of Duluth a Callahan Zinc Lead director and longtime business associate eulogizes James Callahan of Wallace Idaho as a sturdy old west type. Carlson a large Minnesota iron mine operator spoke of Callahan’s demise and his early support in Interstate Callahan litigation.

Polaris Lease May Yield Early Bonanza

John F. Ferguson, with Chris Grimsmoe and C. H. Craig, reports the Polaris lease is developing positively. Operations focus on a 350 foot deep stope above the main tunnel, with gray copper ore in shoots a few inches to a foot wide. The ore is well sorted and accumulating on the dump, estimated to return not less than 200 jounces per ton.

Bullion. Development Work to Resume at Fullion Mine

James H. Taylor manager of the Fullion Mining company returns from the property after snow vanished and prepares to haul in supplies. Work underground will continue with drifting west from the main crosscut toward the Copper Queen ground then back to the ore in the east drift. One or two men will clear a wagon road grade to connect with an old logging railroad down to the Milwaukee.

Tramway Delivering Ore From Sidney to Denver Gulch

In Sidney 150 feet below the original discovery the ledge shows the same ore characteristics as first seen and ore amount. The tunnel at the discovery has been extended 60 feet with no grade or ore change. About two car loads are ready for shipment and a gravity tramway is being erected to deliver ore to bins at the wagon road in Denver gulch. Harry McKinlay Married in Twin Falls. LOG CABIN Mining Assesses 1920 Work Near Wallace

Log Cabin Mining completes assessment work for 1920 and expects to continue this year. Property lies on Nine Mile Fork near Wallace three and a half miles away. Main development is a 1000 foot tunnel cutting a vein at about 200 feet, with ore stringers and a drift of about 40 feet. Showing indexed remains encouraging, uncertain if independent vein or offshoots. Officers include Sam H. Linn president treasurer Walter H. Lead-Silver Ore Showed In Wilson Vein Outcrop

W Dougherty secretary of Wilson Mining and Smelting Co attended a directors meeting at Saltes Mont where a contract was let to extend a crosscut 100 feet. The vein lies in Hig Sunday creek near Saltes and shows a promising lead silver ore with galena. The company plans boarding and bunk houses and a road to Saltese, with 14 claims total and a copper vein nearby.

Rainbow Company Plans 50 Foot Shaft At Promising Ore Shows

Rainbow Mining of Spokane will let a contract to sink 50 feet at a promising lead silver and zinc show 250 feet from the main tunnel portal. Deeper extension depends on ore development with possible raises. Copper ore also flagged about 1800 feet from the portal. An assessment of 2 mills per share is levied to fund the work. Officers and directors elected at Coeur d'Alene include George Austin as president and manager, Henry Tufts as VP, R. P. Woodworth as secretary treasurer, and A E Bronson, T A Libby, and A Hu Nourse on the board.

Thurston Returns to Valentine Mine Development
