The report highlights new mineral discoveries extending mine life in the district. Notable finds include the granite Success ore body with zinc lead potential, a large Kellogg peak vein near Bunker Hill Sullivan, the east ore body at Heela, and a parallel Callahan strike indicating a substantial lead ore shoot potentially lasting for years.
A. D. Gritman, president and manager, has been at Moon Creek property preparing to resume development. He plans to start pumping this week and unwater the mine in about two weeks. George L. Richardson of Washington Water Power helped restore electric connections. The Dickens property is extensively developed by tunnel and shaft with ore exposed on all levels, and a mill is in place.
Reports from the Success mine state the drift in the new ore shoot shows a full face of ore and ore on both walls with two feet of clean ore on one wall. Lead and mine ore are present, production shifts to rapid development using machine drills as electric power connection is completed by Washington Water Power. The discovery draws wide interest as the mine is poised to recapture its former record.
The Shoshone County mineral output for 1921 shows a $18,720,730 value per the U S Geological Survey and $14,594,899 per Idaho State Mine Inspector Stewart Campbell, a $873,669 gap favoring the survey. Discrepancies appear in gold silver lead zinc and copper totals with Campbell asserting higher or lower amounts, and Campbell contends his data from producers and smelters is more reliable.
The Idaho Medical association meets in Wallace July 10 and 11 with national names in medicine and surgery. Lectures by Dr. Bloodgood on cancer and Dr. Pottinger on tuberculosis headline a program including Dr. Dunn of Nebraska and Dr. Adson and Dr. Henderson of the Mayo Clinic. Public lectures, a lantern demo, and a banquet mark the gathering, with tours to local mines and smelters included.
Prospecting near Sonora in Burke quartzite uncovers an eight foot wide vein with galena and chalcopyrite in place. The ledge lies 400 feet above a different quartz vein, east of prior workings, with plans to drive a crosscut at depth. Current officers of the company are Judge A H Featherstone president, Geo L Richardson vice president, Dr W A Smith secretary treasurer, Konrad Hots, George Reese, Otto Dubach, and Stephen Cole, all of Wallace.
In annual assessment work the Cincinnati group vein is crosscut to about 20 feet wide, mainly quartz and iron with galena. It is believed to be the eastern extension of the Morning. Between the Morning and Hunter mines, this promising showing may prompt deeper development after completing assessments.
J I Martin of Mullan announces a contract awarded to Henning Erickson to drive a 50 foot crosscut to extend No 3 tunnel toward the vein. Work began last Tuesday after repairs to the blacksmith shop and related prep. Vein depth depends on vein dip. company plans further development after the 60 foot contract. Delinquent stock sale linked to Carney assessment postponed 30 days.
Executors must file a complete inventory with Probate Judge Sherrard by July 15. Appraisers will be appointed after. The estate faces inheritance taxes to both state and federal governments, with federal tax due on proof of death and penalties for delay. Mr Day died February 11.
Rush J. White representing Jack Waite Mining Co sold 510 pounds of Jack Waite galena ore to G. Scott linked with a large eastern radio equipment firm. Purity and grain fineness affect detector efficiency for determining wave lengths. Metallurgist Mr Reott found Jack Waite ore closest to standard, shipping example ore east at 44 percent lead. If factory tests succeed a 15 to 20 ton shipment will be ordered.
Lookout Mountain ore work shifts to sinking from the main tunnel near the third ore shoot. The vertical shaft is planned to 100 feet, likely crossing the ore ahead of that level, enabling crosscut and drift to secure a large productive block and boost shipments. A gravity tramway links tunnel to loading at the wagon road with three hand jigs for finished product and crude high grade ore.
Reports of a new ore vein in the Morning mine surface as a promising crosscut by N C Sheridan and associates. The vein, entering about 126 feet beyond the Midnight crosscut, runs roughly 25 feet wide with stringers of galena and a sample assay of 45 ounces silver and 65 percent lead. Prospects hinge on connecting to the Morning workings and extending exploration to the old galleries.
The Idaho and Los Angeles Mining and Milling company let a contract to Andrew Maki of Mullan to extend a crosscut 190 feet, expected to reach the vein about 1500 feet west of the main workings. The firm, inactive for 18 months, plans annual assessment work for 1921 and 1922, owning several Callahan southward claims, seven patented. Supplies were delivered to the property. Strong lead price and zinc demand are seen as supporting profitable operation. The company operates a modern mill with 200 ton capacity.
