Silver Price Fixed by Law at $1 for American Output
The Pittman act requires the treasury to buy American silver at $1 per ounce, but proving the silver is from American mines and refined domestically is complex. Officials say purchases are conditional on compliance, while smelters urge simplification and warn of delayed operation. Experts expect eventual buyback near $1, though production remains costly and dominated by American mines.

Coeur dAlene Mines Show Great Reduction in Profits
The Coeur dAlene mining district saw a steep drop in net profits in 1919 due to high costs, labor shortages, and a two month strike. Net profits were 3,275,123 compared with 7,970,353 in 1918 and 12,154,620 in 1917, despite higher gross output of 14,511,180 in 1919. Expenditures for improvements fell, freight and treatment costs declined, and outlook for 1920 suggests growth as ore reserves remain strong at Morning, Mace, Callahan, and Bunker Hill.

Remarkable Galena Ledge Found on Chicago-Boston Ground
A striking discovery of a galena rich ledge on the Chicago-Boston ground was reported this week. The open cut reveals a 22 foot wide vein with streaks of lead and silver. Julius Goodrich brought samples this morning and noted the vein extends across Lake gulch from the Chicago-Boston shaft, about 400 feet higher and 500 feet west, possibly 200 feet lower down the creek. The Ki Huck crosscut from the 200 shaft level has advanced over 400 feet and recent water in the face contrasts with prior dry conditions. Also, John F. Ferguson, treasurer of Shoshone County, declares he will not seek reelection, citing the demands of accounting work and gratitude for service.

North Side Mines Show Much Activity and Plans
North Side mines show high activity with increased tonnage and new development planned. Paragon Consolidated Mining aims to resume deep exploration at the Paragon and Murray Hill properties, sinking a shaft deeper to test ore continuity and overhaul a 100 ton mill for operation, with shipping possibly from Delta or Prichard and an emphasis on securing railroad reinstatement to boost ore movements.
