Sydney Mining Co Begins Ore Shipments From Sidney Mine
Ore shipments from the Sidney mine to the Bunker Mill smelter started Monday. Fred Ruch, overseeing the upper workings, has a crew opening ore beneath the surface and exposing a tonnage of first class product. The ore, carbonate and galena, comes from a 300 foot long proven shoot. A three man crew works in the lower tunnel driving a crevcut toward the main vein, about 150 feet away at a face depth of 450 feet above the ore.

English Coal Prices in New York Harbor and Ballast Costs
English coal recently sold in New York harbor for 4.75 dollars per ton, while domestic coal of equal grade runs about 6 dollars. The Boston News Bureau notes little or no profit for producers at that price. English coal has mainly been ballast, with ships paying 2 dollars per ton for ballast and loading, plus 2 more to unload on this side. By paying about 1 dollar more, ships can load coal instead of ballast, an on board price that saves loading cost.
