Day estate accounts show large cash receipts and dividends

The Day estate executors Harry L Day and Jerome J Day filed a ten month account with vouchers for probate listing cash on hand at death of Eugene R Day 350953.31 and total receipts 428478.80 from salaries dividends and sales. Disbursements include widow allowances 1000 monthly and major expenses including legal fees 5100 and income tax 2173.73 with entries from Hers Hercules Hecla and other interests.

Passing of P. J. Gearon Coeur d'Alenes Pioneer

Patrick J Gearon a Coeur d Alenes pioneer died in Spokane last Friday afternoon after heart trouble. He had led the James I Howarth company as president and recently opened a Spokane branch. Gearon had planned to return to Wallace Sunday but suffered a fatal heart attack while in his hotel room. Funeral services were held in Spokane with Wallace friends attending. he is survived by wife son John Gearon and siblings. Born June 21 1862 in Freeport Illinois he lived in Sioux City Montana and Missoula before settling in Wallace. He helped organize the Howarth company and led mining ventures including Independence Lead mines and American Commander Mining Milling company.

Benton Mine Shows New Vein Near Wide West Ore

The Benton Mining company reports a new vein aligning with the Wide West, found in a south drift off the Benton tunnel near Gorge Gulch close to Burke. At 1500 level the Amazon-Dixie reports 650 feet drift west with ore of lead-silver and copper, including a 3 feet copper-rich section, while management in Cleveland pursues a mill and financing for production.

Coeur d'Alene Hardware builds new mining hoist at Bunker Hill

The Coeur d'Alene Hardware and Foundry company, based in the mining district city, showcases its Coeur d'Alene hoist and other equipment as top performers in western mines. The 150 horsepower double-drum hoist with 6000 pound rope pull will lift 9000 pounds on an incline and stores 6500 feet of ¾ inch rope. It features a 48 inch drum, balance operation, and was designed with input from Fred Porter and Walter C. Clark.
