Independence Lead Mines expose rich ore at Gettysburg

Harry W. Ingalls of Mullan displayed lead and silver ore from the Gettysburg No 3 tunnel. Samples show a five foot vein section with 3.5 percent lead and 22 ounces silver, 20 feet wide with broader assays up to 7.5 percent lead and 25 ounces silver. Drift face assays run 1 percent lead and 3.5 ounces silver with no zinc detected, suggesting a significant ore body near No 1 tunnel.

Northern Gold Rush Near Hudson Bay

A rush to Elbow Lake in northern Manitoba follows a May discovery by the Murray brothers. Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd of Porcupine Ont acquired two claims and now employs an engineer and 25 workers. A sleigh road is being cut from Mile 56 on the Hudson Bay railroad toward the claims as two crosscuts reveal gold values. Coarse gold was first found at Copper Lake, 12 miles from Elbow Lake, by J. P. Gordon in 1919, with Gordon claims later diamond drilled. Detroit has 31 motor plants and 219 accessory factories.
