Idaho asks federal order to build north south railroad
The Idaho Public Utilities Commission asks the Interstate Commerce Commission to compel Northern Pacific and Camas Prairie lines to extend from Weiser toward New Meadows, Grangeville to Lewiston, claiming a new north south link would cut total distance by about 105 miles and boost freight and passenger movement from north to south Idaho. The plan, costed at about seven million dollars, hinges on a certificate of convenience and necessity and could redefine regional rail transport.
