Stage Coach Robbery Near Ione Leaves Loot About $1500

A mail stage from Jackson to Sacramento was stopped near Ione by two armed men. Passengers including Alexander Torges and E Johnson were relieved of cash watches and small valuables totaling around $1500. The bandits, one with a shotgun and one with a pistol, forced passengers off one by one and escaped with about $400 from the driver’s ledger and other plunder. Johnson’s purse was found later in the boot. reports estimate Wells Fargo & Co and others may add to the reward.
