Refugee I W Ward Flies From Topia To California

I W Ward a mining engineer from Acopanete Topia reached Los Angeles after a perilous overland flight with four Mexicans. He crossed four rivers dodging rebel raids and was aided by the Buford to reach the coast. Ward fears Mexico needs US intervention and recalls his threats from rebels. He plans a visit to North Dakota relatives before returning to work in the southern republic. Also announced is Richland County Old Settlers meeting at Fairfield Fairmount June 20-21.

State School of Science Wahpeton Seeks Coal Bids

Notice states Wahpeton North Dakota school will accept bids by noon July 10 1912 for coal supplies including 500 tons Youghiogheny lump 20 tons Zeigler lump and 20 tons anthracite stove or nut size. Bids mailed to the State School of Science Wahpeton will be received. The right to reject any or all bids is reserved.

Wahpeton Science School 1912 Commencement Ceremony

The Science School graduation at the Opera House on Friday June 14 honored forty eight graduates from Wahpeton with diplomas for completing prescribed courses. Principal Olsgard spoke on work habits and success as the audience heard songs, orations, and a valedictory from Clarence Crocker. The program featured Miss Iola Cameron salutatory, Miss Mabel Quinn on domestic economy, engineering talks, and music including a solo by Miss Mariesreen. The event closed with the Lass ODE and a poem, honoring the class of 1912.

Twenty-Eighth G A R W R C Convention at Casselton

The twenty third annual G A R and W R C convention met in Casselton June 12. Delegates toured sessions, enjoyed meals at Federated Orchard, and attended films and a camp fire. Jessie Tracy of Valley was elected President and Lisbon named for 1913. Boy Scouts escorted delegates, with $18.50 donated in appreciation.
