On Saturday February, at two o clock pm an examination will be held in Wahpeton High School for applicants to the Supervisor for Census as Census Enumerator. Those who have received admittance cards may take the exam. Jossin J. Voves, Secretary Local Civil Service Examining Board.
Washington reports Hon. W E Purcell of Wahpeton has been appointed to succeed the ailing Hon Fountaine L Thompson as senator from North Dakota. Purcell, born in Flemington New Jersey in 1856, long noted attorney, settled in Wahpeton after Dakota Territory arrival in 1881. He served as U S attorney, helped draft North Dakota constitution, and has twice declined state office bids. He was sworn in and represents the twelfth district.
Secretary of the Interior announces 1,400,000 acres in Valley County Montana opened to white settlement March 1 1910 with first come, first served entry. Filings start March 31 at Glasgow Land Office. prior settlers have preferred rights within three months. Red Cross Ladies Aid to meet at hospital February 7 with bus at 2:30.

Bismarck February 2 The state penitentiary board accepted the resignation of Warden F O Hellstrom and named D H McArthur of Bottineau state senator as his successor. McArthur will take inventory duties immediately and the change may take several days. Hellstrom becomes business manager of The Fargo News. Governor Burke aims to grant full hearings to all candidates and quell Democratic maneuvering.
The Wahpeton board of trustees accepted Pref. Burch’s resignation after a two day session. Effective at year end, his departure ends six years of leadership that transformed a chaotic start into a growing technical college with 350 pupils, 13 to 14 faculty, three cottege buildings, a gym, and central heating. Mr and Mrs Burch leave behind many friends in Wahpeton.
