He recalls Iowa corn and Campbell dry farming, stresses moisture management, stock raising, and soil fertility, urging use of scientific methods to expand Iowa agriculture and keep wheat country status.
Skauge v N P R R yielded a $1000 verdict for the plaintiff. Hafner v N P R R settled out of court with $300 to the plaintiff. Mathews v L E McDonald awarded $450 to the plaintiff. Jantgaard v Green Township involved a land line dispute. prior verdict for plaintiff but township appeal ongoing.

Augustus Aspinwall died at home after about a two week illness of light pneumonia. Born March 9 1830 in Genoa New York he lived in Elmira Fr Riply Wahpeton and Green Lake before settling in Wahpeton in 1884 where he ran a real estate and loan business. He married Harriet McCrory in 1868 and Maria Bessac in 1889. six children were born to the first marriage with five living. Funeral at the family home Thursday afternoon with interment at View Cemetery. county schooling and first grade statistics follow.

State Supt Taylor reports 4205 applicants for teachers certificates in 1911 with 207 free grade and 1881 second grade certificates. Morton county had 195 applicants, the largest, and Richland ranks among the counties in this tally.
Community gossip notes attendees and travelers in Wahpeton area with visits to Annandale Minn and Fox Home. Mrs Duncan McKinnon went to Annandale with relatives. Mrs George Eichmeier and Miss Florence Haffner visited Wahpeton. Mike Hafner and Frank Herman Jr traveled to Wahpeton. Royal Neighbors and Modern Woodmen held a joint installation at M W A Hall.

The State Editors met in Fargo last week in a Bret meeting of the Association. Editors paid their own fare and attendance was good though fewer ladies accompanied the pen pushers. Topics included legal rates for publications, foreign advertising, postal laws, and other issues facing weekly newspapers. Black and Holbien were re elected president and vice president. Hughes and the Camerons from Wahpeton attended.
Caroline Barber Hanson, born August 28 1836 in Mentor Ohio, died January 26 1912 at the home of Major and Mrs W R Pardon after a long illness. She taught in Chester Mentor and Painesville, married William M Jon then moved to Willoughby. Survived by relatives in Wahpeton Cleveland and Willoughby. Funeral Monday with Rev Gallagher officiating.
A church supper will be hosted by the men of the M. E. Church on February 1 at Armory Hall. The event follows the European plan with a 5 oclock serving time and promises plenty to eat and good company. W. J. Hutcheson is listed as organizer.
