Man Held as Insane After Sheep Herders Slaying Rumor
Reports from Reno and Pyramid Lake district recount a man named Merrill who with Benoist allegedly killed two Basque sheep herders, Joe and Jose, during a camp quarrel. Merrill, found nude and frenzied, was jailed and declared insane, then committed to the asylum amid claims of unrequited love and fear of Benoist.
