Local notes report Fran Que from Kennedy District in town with F J Button and Fy Tronedale visiting. Dr McDonald arrived from Wade Worth. Captain Marten shipped fuel to Trackes. Mrs. Clarke visiting sister Emmons. sheep shipments by James Carmichel, Horn & Judge, Harvey Douglas, Polly Hilborn & Co, Miller & Lux. Washington's Birthday closed school. Dance event at Lovelock baseball club. Sunday School and church announced by Rev Worcox.
A livestock expert notes drastic reductions in cattle on Nevada ranges. Truckee river valley herds drop to about 4000 head from 11000 to 19000, Mason Valley feeds ~4000, Humboldt valley under 3000, Clinrehill below 2000, Paradise valley ~2000, Honey Lake and Bierra combined around 6000. East of Humboldt beef cattle are nearly gone. total Nevada range cattle not exceed 18000 while regional averages exceed 50000. The shortage stems from heavy sales to Kasiery investments last September and October.
A lively masque ball hosted by Stillwater's young men on February 12 at the Court House drew about forty masqueraders. Music filled the evening until 10:20 with supper and dancing afterward, praised for excellent arrangements by Mrs. J. M. Sitford. A list of participants includes numerous titled disguises and guests, with mingled remarks of future gatherings.
