Hold Up on V. and T. Train Near Carson Specs
Last Friday night a robber boarded the Carson to Reno V. and T. train, smashed the express car door with a sledge, cornered messenger Jack Paige, and demanded the paymaster’s cash box. Paige surrendered the box and the train was halted to let the thief off. Authorities and onlookers estimate about $7000 was taken. U S Marshal Humphreys confronted the robber and removed his weapon before the train returned to Carson. Passengers debated why others did not learn the news as posse rumors spread and some passengers feigned ignorance.
