Nevada's musical mountain near Pyramid Lake captivated 1863 miners from the Comstock. Investigators linked Aeolian sounds to iron pyrite–charged rock detritus sliding down the mountain, while Piute observers called it the Singing Mountain. No valuable mines were found and the area faded from attention.
