Taxpayers in the Waco Independent School District will fund a new grade school without bond debt and interest. By shifting 500000 from the maintenance to the expansion fund over six years, the district saves about 145000 and avoids issuing bonds for 20 years. Business Manager J E Lee notes the expansion fund covers future school costs and borrows later.
Executive Vice President Othel M. Neely announces seven rodeo performances at the Heart O' Texas Fair with a championship night finale. The schedule, extended from six shows, reflects strong interest and ticket sales. Box seats cost 3 dollars, reserved 2.50, general 1.75, including grounds admission. Performances start nightly with Sunday grand entry at 2:30 p.m. and a 6:30 p.m. parade following the Sunday rodeo. The fair runs through Oct 5 with a downtown parade kickoff.
Volunteers in the special gifts division of the 1957 Greater Waco United Fund campaign begin work Monday morning. Division chairman Harlon Fentress calls a 10 am meeting in the Civic Room of the First National Bank for instructions and supply distribution before soliciting. The division aims for $228,000 out of a $554,725 goal. Pushers include Howard Hamilton Oliver Winchell and Russell Cox.

London dispatch reports that mass trials of Poles arrested in the Poznan riots will begin next week. Fifty three people were killed in the uprising, with more than 300 wounded as Western visitors watched the Poznan trade fair.
Kay Lance of 7-Eleven reports two unescorted dogs, a Boston bulldog and a part collie, entered No 2 store at Fifteenth Street and Maple Avenue on J. P. Greer’s watch. They picked a five pound bag of dog food, tore it open, and feasted as employees chased them away later.
Airman First Class Herbert F Winslett, 24, of 1118 Morrow Avenue was shot twice by a teen age gunman outside a tavern at 1811 North Fifteenth Street around 11 30 p m Saturday. He was taken to Providence Hospital in critical condition and the youth, about 16, was later arrested for questioning.
In Dallas a federal contempt case targets two school officials over school integration efforts as the NAACP moves to cite them in court. Simpson Tate, the NAACP lawyer, says the federal hearing stands apart from a state restraining order that could curb NAACP actions in Texas.
City aldermen prepare to hear the 1956 57 budget in council at 2 p m Tuesday with a public hearing ahead of adoption on Oct 1 The budget includes pay raises and a rise of more than 50 000 for extra care items such as the public library parks and recreation the Waco Humane Society Civil Defense cemetery associations and the Texas National Guard Allocations rise from 190 333 to 221 484 with the Humane Society up from 6 160 to 8 300 and the others included in the increase
Austin Mayor Tom Miller and Houston businessman Warren Woodward were named state chairman and executive director for the unified Texas campaign for the Democratic national ticket and other nominees. The selections were announced by National Committeeman Byron Skelton of Temple and praised by Governor nominee Price Daniel, Senator Lyndon Johnson, and Speaker Sam Rayburn.
Adlai E Stevenson accused the Eisenhower administration of short changing farmers small business and workers while Nixon promised a doubled standard of living within a decade. They spoke in Colorado after parallel Saturday rallies and Stevenson began an 11 state tour with a farm speech in Newton Iowa. Nixon, midway through a 32 state swing road show, spoke of a future with shorter work weeks and reduced poverty.
Sen Price Daniel, Democratic gubernatorial nominee, says he will resign from the Senate soon, possibly next week. He plans to time the resignation to allow free choice of his successor before he takes office and notes no temporary appointment. Daniel is reviewing legal options with three attorneys about a Democratic primary to fill the vacancy.
In Fazana Yugoslavia on September 22 Nikita Khrushchev and President Tito isolated themselves on Brioni Island two miles off the Adriatic coast. Officially Khrushchev is on a private tourist visit but unofficially there is speculation of talks.

President Eisenhower plans a full scale physical in mid October with results to be published. White House spokesman James Hagerty noted the health update comes a year after his heart attack and mentions weight recovery and a 2500 calorie diet while anticoagulants continue.

Funeral services for Dr Luther W Courtney 76 will be held at 10 a m Monday at First Baptist Church with Dr Harold E Lindsey and Dr Charles T Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. He had taught at Baylor University for 37 years and died at Hillcrest Hospital at 6 50 a m Saturday from a heart attack at home while preparing to attend the funeral of his friend and former student Sam Darden. Classes at Baylor are adjourned 9 30 a m to noon Monday. He is survived by his former wife Ratele McCarley Harris and two daughters Mrs George E McKinnis Jr of Shawnee Oklahoma and Miss Frances E Harris of New York. See RITES Page 5.
Weather Bureau expected Flossy to become a hurricane by early Sunday and issued a hurricane watch along the Texas and Louisiana coast. Winds 45 to 55 mph at center with gales up to 250 miles out, moving northwest then north. Coastal waters from Corpus Christi to Appalachicola urged to stay in port, as Gulf Coast radio network prepared to relay warnings.
Forecaster says Tropical Storm Flossy off the Texas coast will raise Central Texas rain chances Sunday night into Monday. A mild northward front may bring thundershowers as moisture spreads inland, with the system possibly becoming a hurricane and affecting the weather pattern through the period.
