World renowned young violinist set to headline Waco Symphony season

Waco patrons await opening night on November 6 as Christian Ferras takes the stage as guest soloist with the Waco Symphony Orchestra. The season also features soprano Eleanor Steber and pianist Van Cliburn, with early patron memberships driving strong advance demand. Ferras, praised for tonal suavity and inner fervor, rises before his 30th birthday and follows a European career that included a North American debut in 1959 amid military leave.

Rail strike widens as talks collapse on job security

Federal mediators announced the breakdown in negotiations after a 17 day walkout by about 1000 members of the Order of Railway Telegraphers at the Chicago & North Western Railway. The disruption idled some 15500 workers across nine states and drew calls from Congress for a quick settlement. Ben W Heineman said management doubts any talks will resume without union acceptance of the board’s findings. Parts of Texas Hit by Showers and Storms

A weak cool air mass moved south across Texas on Saturday bringing showers to many areas and thunderstorms in the Panhandle. Northwest Texas saw turbulent weather with hail reported in Amarillo. A pilot over South Texas observed turbulence and a funnel cloud. Temperature changes over the weekend were expected to be minor.
