The Coin Club show at Holiday Inn draws crowds with Mel Patton as president and Doug Weaver as chairman. Also noted is the Policemen's Ball with Conway Twitty headlining and tickets selling quickly. Unemployment rose from 3.8 to 3.9 percent as civilian labor force fell in October.
John E Voorman a Decatur Illinois native was chosen executive secretary of Downe town Waco in a Wednesday morning appointment.
Hannah, county engineer for 41 years, dedicated the Manton Hannah Highway 84 between Waco and McGregor on Wednesday. Jack Kultgen joined the ceremony as the ribbon was cut for the important artery in McLennan county.
Waco Jaycee invites participation at Municipal Rifle Range at the Airport on November 19 and 20. Three shots cost $1.00 with optional rifle use and chances on a Winchester Model 70 rifle priced at 25 cents each or 5 for $1.00. Tickets from any Jaycee.
The Success Open begins with a windy first day as four teams tie for first at 58. Winners include Kathy Whitworth Claude Carter Tom Norfleet and Mrs Chic Norcross. Second place teams feature Althea Gibson Johnny Arraga Burl Ivy and Paul Bowen.
Focus Week at Baylor University ended Thursday as speakers from three states departed Waco after a reception. The remaining team members Dr. John R. Killinger Jr. and Dr. Ralph T. Overman of Oak Ridge Tennessee also left.
American Legion James A. Edmond Post 121 and Auxiliary Unit 121 plan a Thanksgiving dinner at the Legion Hall Indiana and 3rd on Monday night Nov 21 at 6 30 p m It is family night and auxiliary members will cook the dinner and entertain 50 patients from Veterans Hospital.
Roy Middleton of the Waco police promotes a campaign to stop child molesting. He arranged a display at city hall and the Greater Waco Safety Council distributed pamphlets warning children not to accept rides from strangers.
The Waco Jaycees announce the Christmas Parade is moved to December 2 at 6:00 p.m. by request of the Downtown Merchants Association. Parade entries may contact Darvin Little at PL 3-9087 or the Jaycee office PL 3-5881.
The Waco Junior Chamber of Commerce announces the Letters To Santa contest chaired by Eddie Anderson. Children in the Waco area have begun sending letters ahead of the November 29 deadline. Two winners will be chosen between Nov 29 and 30 and honored at the Jaycee noon Luncheon on December 2.
Commerce announces Allen R. Miller Jr as Chaplain of the Jaycees. Miller, a Waco High School graduate with a 1962 Texas A&M BBA, lives at 3704 Brath with Wanda and two children Trey and Deborah Lea. He works as department manager at Montgomery Wards Lake Air and attends Crestview Church of Christ teaching Bible School classes statewide.
The Texas Highway Department urges safer holiday travel as thousands head to Turkey Day games and home for the holidays. Construction zones on 67,000 miles of Texas highways pose unique driving hazards despite safety efforts.
KWBU FM Baylor University plans a Christmas card project for servicemen in Viet Nam and Europe. Ft Worth graduate student John Kulesz says staff collect vocal cards Thursday and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. Students record their names hometowns and messages for two tapes of one and a half hours each with carols.
Nancy Simmons Miss Rodeo Nebraska was named Miss Rodeo America after a fall by a horse. She also won the National Horsemanship Award at the Miss Rodeo America contest in Las Vegas Nevada. Miss Williams rode for the Texas division of International Rodeo Management.
The Northwest Waco Lions Club announces a Ladies Night Party this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ser Deutche Hof Restaurant. Frank Burns presides as president and Ed Fadal serves as program chairman.
