The Heart Of Texas Coin Club hosts a regular meeting with a round table of numismatic fellowship. It will take place Thursday May 12 at 7 30 PM at the T P and L Service Center. An auction of coins is also planned. L L Edmonds serves as secretary of the club.
Three Wacoans were killed in separate weekend wrecks on central Texas highways. The dead include John Cowan Clayton 58 Glennis Taylor 46 and Sarah Taylor 19. Carl Taylor husband of Glennis was seriously injured and sent from Corsicana hospital.
Scout Troop 251 sponsored by the Beverly Hills Lions Club will receive its annual charter at the Lions meeting this Tuesday night. Officials will attend and an outside speaker will discuss Scouting before presenting the charter and a few other presentations.
Beaumont will employ Jack Jeffrey as city manager at twenty thousand dollars a year plus twelve hundred dollars for a car while he remains on Waco payroll until his July 1 resignation. The arrangement follows his tenure in Waco since 1953 and marks Beaumont's first outside manager.
The Waco Citizen begins a three month subscription drive inviting boys and girls ages 12 to 16 to help boost circulation. Prizes include a Go Kart and various items. all participants win a prize. Campaign runs after school on Tuesdays or Wednesdays with local officials Les Brumbaugh and Bill Block coordinating. Also notes SSGT Glen Kinney named Non Commissioned Officer of the Month for April at Twelfth Air Force HQ in Waco.
Philip Anast, former Waco resident and new assistant professor of journalism and social psychology at Wisconsin State College Superior, will teach at the Anchorage campus of the University of Alaska starting next September. Anast, who earned a PhD in Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin, previously taught in Alaska high schools from 1946 to 1962 and holds Baylor bachelor and master degrees. He is brother of Mrs A F Von Blon Jr. 1699 Ewing Ave.
Don Nugent of Copperas Cove defeated Gatesville lawyer Harry Flentge in the Coryell county attorney Democratic primary by 2238 to 1712 votes. Flentge, known for aggressive litigation, recently lost a Gatesville justice court case and has faced lawsuits over flimsy claims.
Young Brothers Construction Co received a city contract to repave Lindsey Hollow Road, South Third Street, and Speight Avenue for a total of 43140 dollars. A 1.5 inch hot mix asphalt coat will be applied along each stretch from specified starting points to end points.
The Waco Junior Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the official Miss Texas Contest in Waco and McLennan County with Archie L. Staccone as chairman. Dates and venue are to be announced. Local winner Miss Waco advances to Miss Texas on July 27 through 30 at Beaumont for a shot at Miss America.
Baylor athletes secured their first track and field meet title by defeating Texas at Fort Worth last Friday and Saturday. Coach Jack Patterson was celebrated for guiding Baylor to its historic conference championship.
