Jack Kultgen won a statewide Fort Worth award for Unselfish Service in Water Conservation. About two thousand women plan a Mental Health doorbell drive to fund treatment and research. Waco joined cities in Law Week observances with clubs noting publicity and Bar Association praise.
Special veniremen prepared for Mexia Jackson a 50 year old Black man of 608 Bowers Street as he stood trial in 54th District Court on a murder charge. Jackson was jailed January 25 after the shooting death of Tommy Taylor at 1800 Harrison Street.
Mrs. Roberta B Collins 44 wife of James Connally Air Force Base commander died shortly before noon Monday when her car left Highway Six and crashed into a tree and a highway sign at Forty-Second Street and Waco Drive. She had been to a beauty salon and died at Hillcrest after an A-1 Ambulance transported her. Funeral arrangements were incomplete. exact cause under study.
Robbers broke into Sam Haik's beer tavern at 1920 South Third. They pried the back door and left insurance paperwork. Inventory included 19 juke box records 32 cigarette-machine packages cash from machines and shuffle board items. Detectives Sherrill and Mackie investigate.
In the county court at law the W S Foster versus Terry McCrary suit over attorney fees on two DWI cases and a 1951 Plymouth, stored since McCrary’s death, ends. Foster agrees to pay 250 for the car plus court costs, closing the long dispute.
