Easter in the Waco area is set for a pleasant observance despite a cool spell. The local city council race draws attention as candidates use ads funded by a “slush fund,” while observers urge voters to scrutinize who pays. Courts remain active with guilty pleas and jury trials across multiple districts.
The Bosqueville Cemetery hosts an interdenominational Easter Sunrise Service next Sunday at 6 22 a m for North Waco Bosqueville and China Spring. Rev H Rhea Gray Rev Robert Robertson Rev Paul O Smith Rev Homer Wallis Rev Lloyd Lawson lead prayers scripture music provided by Bosqueville Methodist Choir and Bosqueville Assembly of God organist Miss Lucy Gorham public invited.
The Herring Avenue Methodist Youth Department plans an Easter Sunrise service this Sunday at 6 30 in Cameron Park near the Bosque and Brazos junction. Breakfast will be served at 5 30. Speaker is Dr Russell Lester Baylor University religion professor and theologian with two children and First Baptist Church affiliations.
About 50 Baylor University students will spend their Easter vacation Friday through Sunday at the annual state wide International Student Retreat at the Lakeview Methodist Assembly in Palestine. The retreat is sponsored each Easter by the Baptist Student Union of Texas.
The Connally Consolidated Independent School District honors trustees administrators teachers and auxiliary staff at a 1963-64 dinner in the new junior high cafeteria. Service pins recognize years of service from ten to twenty-one, with special tribute to Mrs. Iva Cantrell and Mrs. Pearl Strickland.

A proposal to form a junior college in Waco was discussed at a meeting led by Councilman W L Barrett. The Chamber of Commerce education committee will study low cost options using a vacant building. Recommendations go to the Waco city council. George Nokes chairs the committee. City Manager O K Armstrong is involved as planning proceeds. The school is estimated to enroll about 1400 pupils.
Sam G. Myers and Edward H. Thompson, Houston businessmen and former officers of Stahl and Myers Air Conditioning Co., were indicted on four counts of attempted evasion of income taxes and two counts of concealing assets. A federal grand jury in United States District Judge Allan Hannay's court charged them with filing fraudulent corporate tax returns for 1957 and 1958 and false individual returns for Myers and his wife for the same years.
Officials from all local city governments discussed forming a city councils organization. The meeting occurred in the Waco Chamber of Commerce directors room with county participation, outlining a collaborative body for regional representation.
Absentee voting is underway for both the school trustee election and city council races. Voting day in all incorporated cities including Waco is Tuesday April 7. The school board elections occur April 4. The city election absentee deadline is April 3.
The Texas total construction index for February stood at 129 percent of the 1957 59 average, down 1 percent from January. Residential construction rose to 152.8 percent of the base period, the strongest February showing in 17 years, while nonresidential construction advanced 2 percent to a high February level reached only ten times prior.
