Northern Teen Age Baseball League Seeks Players

Registration for the Northern Teen Age Baseball League for boys ages 13 to 15 will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cameron Park near Lower Leap. The league, with six teams, needs 90 players but had only about 17 signed up at press time.

Teachers Conclude Political Clinic in Texas

About 250 Texas teachers returned home after attending the first state wide Political Clinic by the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. Speakers Ben Barnes and Bill Patman urged active political participation and funding for education, stressing the need for educated voters and leaders.

Easter Seals Campaign Opens in McLennan County

Fourteen thousand residents will receive mailouts as the Easter Seals Campaign begins toward a March 26 close. Proceeds benefit the McLennan County Rehabilitation Center at 1501 N 18th St Waco with about 90 percent staying in Texas and 77 percent allocated locally. A C Hicks Seeks Woodway Mayoral Seat In April 4 Election

Woodway mayoral candidate A C Hicks, born 1923 in Bristol Tennessee, served in the Navy 1943 45, later ran Hicks Law and Knife Co. He and wife Betty Rose have daughter Carolyn Hicks. Active in Rotary Lions and Scottish Rite, he cites desire to improve Woodway for all residents.

Highway Illumination Project Discussed In Waco Meeting

A pre construction meeting for the U.S. 84 Interchange with S H 6 and Spur 298 illumination project in Waco will be held March 6 at 10 30 a.m. at the Highway Department District Office. The project by Alder Electric begins about March 8 1967 and covers about two miles with traffic maintained on main lanes.

Four Seek McLennan College Trustee Seats

McLennan Community College officials announced four candidates filed for two Board of Trustees vacancies. The county election is set for April 1. Candidates listed include Mrs. John B. Faulkner, Dr. George W. Henderson incumbent, Henry D. Iglehart, and Carl E. Rogers Jr. with ballots to be determined at a later draw.

Lions International to be honored with commemorative stamp

Postmaster General Lawrence F. O’Brien announced a commemorative stamp for Lions International during its Golden Anniversary year. Issued at the Chicago convention in July 1967, the stamp salutes the theme Search for Peace and highlights the organization's public service, including aid to the blind, with prizes totaling 350000 for a youth peace essay contest.

Anti-Litter Contest Promotes Civic Beautification in Waco

Owens-Illinois Plant 15 sponsors a citywide anti litter contest across 35 Waco schools aimed at involving 19 000 pupils especially fourth through sixth grades. Film Money To Burn shown 17 times to 1733 students by March 1 with 3200 more views planned, prizes to be announced March 15, posters to be displayed March 20–25 at the Waco McLennan County Library.

Poage Urges Fair Farm Prices for War Aid Hunger

Congressman Poage, chairing the House Agriculture Committee, calls for fair farm prices to support the war on hunger as Food-for- India hearings begin. He notes five months of declining U S farm prices, wheat at about 2.14 a bushel with government payments, versus 1947 levels, while manufacturing wages and corporate dividends rose sharply. He cites government supports and land retirement payments but says they are insufficient.

Downtown Waco promotes promotions with new committee

Ray Hollock of Monig's named chairman of the Retail Expansion Committee of Downtown Waco Inc. The ten member panel will plan and run cooperative downtown retail promotions and coordinate institutional programs such as the Christmas parade with the Jaycees. The first order of business is a year end promotion plan.

Fire Prevention School Held at University High School

George Munos presided over the Eleventh annual Fire Prevention school at University High School gym in Waco. The event, aimed at custodians, drivers, and maintenance staff, covered first aid, bus safety, fire hazards, and extinguisher use by Ed Weaver of General Fire Extinguisher Co. Registration and welcoming remarks were provided by local officials and program participants from Red Cross, McLennan County Fire Association, City of Waco Fire Department, and Air Force Base units.

Three representatives of the food service industry in the Waco Restaurant Association Chapter were voted into membership of the local chapter and the Texas Restaurant Association. New members are Polo R. Seale Lind Paper Co Frank W. Phelps Toppers Steakhouse and Jack White Vandervoort's Milk Ice Cream Co all of Waco. The TRA has more than 3500 members and 21 local chapters. Executive Vice President W Price Jr heads the home office. Carl E. Rogers Jr a candidate for McLennan Community College trustee speaks of his engineering background and family in Waco.
