May data show Texas business activity still expanding, with a 40 month upswing and potential to top the 45 month postwar rise. The Texas Business Review notes a 2% dip in the index from April but a 7% rise for the first five months of 1964 versus 1963, amid modest wage gains and a larger labor force. Unemployment fell to 142,500 (3.8% of the labor force) while total employment rose by 28,100, led by agriculture and manufacturing gains.

Dave Hawkins Named Jaycee of the Month in Waco

County Presses for Drainage Help to Finish Valley Mills Drive
County Judge Ray Mormino resisted Friday morning’s push by the Chamber of Commerce highway committee and city officials to fund 35 000 dollars so the state can complete four-laning Valley Mills Drive from the traffic circle to the Beverly Hills area. The group urged reconsideration as officials warned drainage needs across the county could require up to ten million dollars. The state’s share for the project is about five hundred thousand dollars and right of way is in hand.
