Connally Graduates First Class of Cadets

Connally marked a historic graduation as 39 student officers and cadets completed basic navigation training. The ceremony followed a separate RI graduation of five Marines and 21 aviation cadets plus 18 student officers, with Lt Gen Robert Harper as speaker and Col Jasper Bell awarding diplomas and wings.

Teen Age Club at Central Y funded by Cooper Grant

Cooper Foundation Trustees approve a grant not exceeding 5 538.55 to furnish and equip a Teen Age Club in the Central YMCA basement. Two unfinished basement areas for 14–18 year olds and 11–13 year olds will open first floor space for 8–10 year olds. Facilities include lounge TV dominoes checkers, shuffleboard pool table table tennis and a dual builder snack bar.

City Drivers Have Another Wreck

A sanitation truck driven by James C. Pack collided Thursday with a car driven by Roger Jones at 16th and Gurley. Jones, a substitute postman, fainted when trying to call his wife after the crash. Councilman Bud Collins lashed out at city trucks after another crash near Circle Drive In Theatre.

Waco Man Shot on Porch. Car Suspected

A 34 year old Waco man William Davis was shot in the right foot while on his front porch at 1112 Miller. He received pellet removals at Providence Hospital and was later released. Authorities believe a passing car fired the shot and a pickup is sought.

Narcotics Suspect Arrested in Waco Street Incident

Waco police arrested Morris Johnson, 30, of 431 North Second Street last week after a narcotics raid led to his indictment. He was found entering a firm on the South 12th Street block and jailed.

Banks Show Small Gains in Waco

In the last quarter six Waco banks report a 3 percent loan rise adding almost $2 million to total lending. Loans reach $67.3 million vs $65.4 million year ago and $65.3 million year end. Deposits total $144 million, up about $500,000 from a year ago and down $500,000 from year end. Resources total $155.1 million, up nearly $1 million from a year ago but down $400,000 from year end.

Riesel Woman Killed in Wreck

Mrs. Samynie Cleo Skinner age 52 of Riesel died Friday in a two car crash two miles west of Riesel. Her son Garvin Skinner 27 and daughter Frankie Skinner 22 were hospitalized in serious condition. Her nephew Lonnie Coone 18 was in fair condition. The death marked the tenth fatality in McLennan County.

Linda Bailey Wins Little Car at Greenway Shopping Center

Nineteen year old Linda Bailey of 1608 Windsor won a Renault Dauphine car given away by Greenway Shopping Center merchants on Saturday night. About 2000 people attended the drawing. Linda is married with one son and her Navy husband. Chuck Harding provided music, neighbors offered other prizes, and the event followed a three month registration period advertised in the Citizen.

Postal Official Attending Major Count in Dallas Today

kD Marsh from Waco a General Mechanic at the Main Post Office travels to Dallas to represent the National Association of Post Office and General Service Maintenance Employees in the largest employee representation election. Over 20,000 votes from Texas and Louisiana will be tallied as part of a nationwide count across 15 regional offices. Postmaster E O Norwood reports about 360,000 of roughly 495,000 ballots cast nationwide.
