W.S. Foster laments poll tax day in April city election and previews Texas state races. Judge Vic Hall presided in 54th district court with multiple felonies. Jose Guadalupe Flores received a 30 year penitentiary term for the October 25 killing of Dorothy Little Villarreal. Isaiah Henry and Tommy Crain were each sentenced or paroled for burglary and related offenses. County court-at-law cases included Robert Lockridge getting seven days plus fines for driving with a suspended license, and Alex Happy receiving a 50 dollar fine and jail time for DWI. Police reported no burglaries Thursday night while officers sought a Mexican suspect who tied Chacie Shipman at her grocery store, netting 70 dollars.
The U S Bureau of the Census will conduct its Current Population Survey during the week of January 17 to gauge job opportunities in American households. A sample from this area will help estimate national needs for household help including housekeepers cooks maids day workers and related workers.

Col Harold B Simpson (ret) directs the new Confederate Research Center in the Hill Junior College Library. The center houses Hood’s Texas Brigade relics and rare volumes, is free to use, and open TueSat 9 00 to 5 00 and Sun 1 00 to 5 00. Simpson will address the Waco Library Club January 13 at 7 30 p m at the V A Hospital Library.
McLennan County Savings Bond sales for eleven months in 1964 totaled 2,006,079 with 160,793 bought in November. statewide November totals show 11,577,054 in Series E and H bonds, up 9.6 percent from last year, as Cum ulative eleven month sales reach 135,945,497 toward a 150 million state goal.
A judgment for 120000 was awarded to Ni swanger in the 19th district court against Southern Pacific Railway after a collision involving a city employee. Attorneys Wiley Stem Jr. and Lyndon Olson represented the plaintiff.
Central Texas Red Cross Blood Program produced 6 272 pints in six months ending December 31, up 513 from the prior year. McLennan County led 11 counties with 2 615 pints, nine more than the year before and 99 percent of its quota.
The council received a detailed report on urban renewal progress in Waco. Of 333 properties, 205 have clear title, 30 condemned with 25 more authorized, and 45 owners unknown. Jefferson Avenue and Riverside projects are 69 percent done. Baylor area completed earlier. Negotiations for Riverside on Jones Street begin in 4–5 months. Jefferson Avenue will take about two more years.
Judge Bill Logue noted the 19th district court verdict finding the city negligent only in destroying the number two boat dock. S. C. Busby was awarded $500 in damages with $200 for the other dock. Busby sought $2250. city attorneys included Tom Hunter and assistants Earl Bracken and John Houston.
The state of Texas proclaims Jaycee Week for January 17 to 23 to honor the Junior Chamber of Commerce volunteers. Waco Mayor Roger Conger also designates the same dates in the city with a proclamation praising the Jaycees for their community projects and positive city image.
First Federal Savings and Loan President J Harry Jeanes is named to the Federal Savings and Loan Advisory Council in Washington representing the Federal Home Loan Bank of Little Rock Arkansas. The council advises the Federal Home Loan Bank board on general and special industry issues and makes recommendations to the board. Membership includes district representatives and appointees with programs including meetings with government and industry officials.
