Maj. Gen. Truesdell to Command 12th Air Force

Major General Karl Truesdell Jr. is named to succeed Major General Jacob E. Smart as commander of the 12th Air Force. Smart becomes vice commander of Tactical Air Command. Truesdell, West Point graduate, previously deputy chief of staff for operations TAC. He trained at Randalf and Kelly Fields in San Antonio. A Waco home will welcome him and family.

Highway Improvements Planned for McLennan County

The Texas Highway Department will spend 142800 on McLennan County highways this year in resurfacing and intersection channelization. Projects include U S 84 at F M 2418 and Loop 232, U S 84 in Waco, State 317 in McGregor, Loop 2 from Circle at Waco to Waco Drive, with costs totaling about 142800. Thomas Collier stated district staff will manage work.

Marines Distribute 20000 Toys to Needy Children

About 2800 needy Waco children received roughly 20000 toys this year through Marine Reserve Toys for Tots. First Lt Clyde Taylor said the local unit ran out Monday night and the center closed until more toys arrived, reopening Wednesday to finish distribution.

City Overrides Planning Board in Waco Zoning Vote

City attorney Wiley Stemn read an ordinance approved on emergency readings to rezone several parcels in Waco. A Circle area tract along old and new Robinson Roads shifts from residential to C-3 commercial, overriding a planning board recommendation to reject. Other tracts include Carver Addition and the Negro Addition in East Waco.
