Pete's Cafe Closes End of An Era in Waco Square
Longstanding Pete's Cafe on Waco's south square ended 1904 to 1960s legacy as the Klaris family run business. Pete Klaris opened the cafe with a beer tavern upstairs and fed generations with 5 cent hamburgers and 15 cent cheese and crackers. Jim Klaris and later Nick kept it open for decades, serving transients and needy patrons before closing this week, marking the end of a nickel coffee era on the square.
