The Shrine Circus at 14th and Dutton offers two remaining performances with matinee at 2:30 and Saturday night finale. Karem Temple members hawk concessions in the arena while Shriners run games for kids. Guests from Evangelia Settlement, Methodist Home, and State Home attend as guests of Shriners and sponsors. Committees led by A C Hicks chair, Rogers general chairman, with plans for concessions, tickets, advertising, and publicity.
Waco native Cox has been appointed manager of the newly created Central Texas Region of the Texas Manufacturers Association. He will serve four central Texas counties as membership grows. Cox brings over a decade in chamber management, advertising, and public relations in the region, and has worked in Waco, Hillsboro, Crane, and Alice. He is a Baylor University journalism graduate and WWII Navy veteran, married with three children, and will base in Waco.
In Waco, officers Middleton Ross and Elkins helped capture two Negro youths, Allen Clark and Jimmie Lee Bowden, who escaped Bell County jail last week. Clark is set to serve 99 years. Separately, Little League in Waco postponed games due to rain in Norfolk, while funds flow for team expenses as they aim for Williamsport.
Training for the Billy Graham Heart Of Texas Crusade begins September 6 for four weeks. Instructors are Hawke Henkms and Charles Riggs. Sessions start 7:30 at Austin Avenue Methodist Church in Temple on Thursdays at 7:30 at the Fire Dagtist Church. Choir of about three thousand voices being formed to support the crusade. choir members should be experienced. Local entertainment highlight at Lake Whitney features Samtey and Whitney Dark with Salers from Noggton performing a two pm show. Audience may see the group’s sitcom style skits and lakefront setting.
Lake Waco residents are urged to attend a Wednesday demonstration on small craft and open water rescue at the YMCA pool 2600 Franklin at 7 p.m. The event, led by Rob Bradley of the American Red Cross, features paddle board rescues and basic water safety skills.
On August 24 at 8 20 p m Wyatt s Cafeteria in Nearth Texas the Toastmasters club will host a special visitors program. Awards will be presented and past officers recognized with about 40 guests expected. Judges come from Waco and crowd leaders include Bill Steiner Keithle Club President and Gene May providing general evaluation.
