Johnson and Alfred Tennyson Named Special Deputies at Walker's

Johnson a bouncer at Walker's auditorium along with Alfred Tennyson were accused after a shooting. Johnson fired a .38 revolver. a blank starter pistol was found in the deceased man's possession. Police, led by Detective James Smith, investigated conflicting witness statements and noted Johnson’s prior run-ins with the law. A murder charge was filed against Johnson and an autopsy was ordered.

Damage Suits Disposed of In District Courts

A $5000 damages suit was settled in the 54th district court for $150 in a Monday session. In the 74th district court last week Doris E. Resvanis et al vs. Waco Transit Company yielded a $60,160 verdict. Plaintiffs’ attorneys included W. V. Dunnam and sons, Vance and Bill. defense attorneys were Dink Jones and John Sheehy. Jury panels were dismissed as not needed.

THP Reports on Highway Accidents in McLennan County

Texas Highway Patrol in McLennan County released July 1962 rural accident summary. Thirty three rural crashes caused four deaths and nineteen injuries with damaged property totaling 27240 dollars. For January July 1962 the county logged 203 crashes with nine deaths and 113 injuries, property loss 109105 dollars.

Fire Relief Amid Nuisance Actions In Bellmead Area

Fire on Campground road destroyed ten sheds and 31 hogs along with about a hundred acres of dry grass near Bellmead while a lumber yard on Michigan Avenue suffered losses. Health authorities faced nuisance lawsuits over hogs and chickens owned by a local Waco figure as fire departments from Bellmead James Connally and Lakeview cooperated to prevent further damage. In Corpus Christi Miss Texas Rural Electrification 1963 was awarded to Ton da Curry of Ropesville. she will represent Texas Rural Electrification in Las Vegas in January 1963.
