Thistle control plan proposed by Iowa expert
M H Burns of Iowa State College recommends cutting corn where maturing is scarce, plowing thistle patches, and keeping ground worked weekly until freeze. Next spring plow early and work weekly until July then sow a fast-growing crop like sugar cane, Sudan grass, millet or alfalfa to suppress regrowth. Thorough following year may whip thistles in a single season.
