Newspaper Adverts Prove Paper Still Top Retail Channel
A survey by four national associations shows newspapers capture about 58 percent of advertising spend by chains in a typical year, with drug, grocery, and general merchandise chains spending 82.24 percent, 56.53 percent, and 51.36 percent respectively. The piece extols newspapers especially in smaller towns, where readers engage with news, locals, and ads from cover to cover. It also notes a cold snap in town and skepticism about rail traffic capacity, citing the Association of American Railroads on freight volumes and improvements in efficiency since 1920 and wartime levels.
