The season’s first frost hit northwest Iowa early Thursday, injuring corn and soybeans from light to heavy in ten counties. Temperatures ranged from 30 to 34 degrees in towns like Estherville, Pocahontas, and Spirit Lake, with Fort Dodge at 31. Soybeans suffered more than corn, leaves darkening while stem damage varied by maturity. Ice formed on a hog waterer near Emmetsburg. Officials noted a few spots with real freezing, and uncertainty remained as weather patterns shift. Also, Mr and Mrs Warren celebrate silver wedding with open house Sunday night.
