Insurance ruling preserves Blanchard act limits in Iowa
Insurance Commissioner Emory H English Friday ruled that the new fire insurance rating bureau law does not repeal the Blanchard act and does not allow companies to enter into agreements on transactions. Bureaus may act as advisory agents limited to identifying hazards and setting a rate. Companies are not required to follow bureau rates forms or permits and the Iowa Insurance Department may prosecute any attempt to enforce bureau rulings. Discrimination is prohibited as rates must be applied uniformly to similar risks.
