Red Clover Damaged by Late Cutting and Seeding Life
Dr. Robert Poulter of the University of Iowa reports that clipping or pasturing red clover after Sept. 1 damages 60 to 96 percent of plants the following summer. The study suggests life of one seeding could extend to three or four years if not winter-killed. White clover and alfalfa show no mowing damage due to stem structure, though alfalfa may suffer if cut after Oct. 1.
