September 1925 Iowa crop report outlines corn and forage prospects
The September 1 1925 Federal State Crop Report lists Iowa corn at 88 percent of normal with projected 449,409,000 bushels. Heat and drought hurt yields late August across the western half, while eastern Iowa benefits from soil and climate, with hail and wind affecting crops. Oats show lighter yields, spring wheat forecasts total production around 1.2 million bushels, barley up 26 percent, and hay yields mixed with tame hay at 3.78 million tons and alfalfa 681 thousand tons.

Celander, a Sweden native and founder of Swea City, ran a blacksmith shop for 30 years and lived with his son since his wife’s death four years ago. Separately, Miss Mabel Mercer of Sagatuck fought off Charles Lowry from drowning and towed him to shore.
