Maine voters backed Republicans with reduced margins. Governor Cobb won by about 8,000 votes, far below the usual 26,000 lead. Rep. Littlefield was re-elected but his plurality fell from nearly 5,600 to about 1,000 as Democrats carried most cities. Sturgis liquor law enforcement and repeal proposals shaped results.
