First Furnace Fire Sets the Burt Home Ablaze

Battery Plant Manager Burns Severely In Explosion
Henry Thompson, manager of the Thompson Battery station on South Suh street, was badly burned Tuesday noon when a large storage battery exploded. Acid spurted into his eyes as he was burning a connection on an Exide battery. His helper Clarence Barlow hurriedly neutralized the acid with a on hand solution, likely saving his sight. Thompson can move about but wears colored glasses.

Blaine Asher of Spencer defeated Mort Anderson 4 up to go in the finals of the Iowa Great Lakes tournament at Spencer. Anderson won low medalist prize with a 77, then exits as runner up. Four Estherville players competed, with several first round losses and semi final progress noted amid ongoing championship and consolation rounds. Also, J.H. Dunham’s son Errett and wife welcomed an eight pound boy in Pasadena, Cal.
