Drought Suspected in Tree Die-Off At Iowa State College

Many young trees sent to Iowa State College show death from drought rather than disease or injury. Extension forester I T Bode notes few long soaking rains have left roots dry. Water rooted trees in August or September by deep soaking, not surface sprinkling. Insects and diseases occur, but drought weakens trees and increases vulnerability.
