Spirit Lake hosts Estherville ex service men convention
Estherville ex servicemen attended Spirit Lake convention with a large crowd. The event opened with H E Narey address and a speech by J Lewis of the Iowa Federation of Tabor, followed by vaudeville, bands, and Scotch songs by Hi Kendall. Governors and state officials spoke as committees set policies for the coming year. Donaldson boys showcased a flying exhibition, Arnold’s Park offered entertainment, and officers for the next year were elected including D M Steckan as Commander and Tom Roberts as Vice Commander. The next legion convention was hotly debated with Waterlon Boone and Creston contending before Creston won. The 40 and 8 were administered to about 75 legion members. Algona will host the initiation in September. Many Estherville men plan to pursue the higher degree at Algona.
