Farm Committee Dismisses Program At County Meeting
Government crop insurance and the ever normal granary were discussed and voted on at an AAA county meeting in the city hall. Sixty township committeemen attended. Insurance not available in Emmet county was favored. 800,000,000 bushels of corn a year was deemed a safe carry over with a normal crop of three billion bushels. The most satisfactory storage was farm or CCC bins in county towns. Seventy five percent of plowable land could be planted to soil depleting crops and maintain fertility, with half to raw crops and 25 percent for non depleting crops like legumes. Estimates of phosphate use if price support ends ranged from 10 to 75 percent. Few farmers would adjust operations if prices stay at parity. If conservation acreage is set, about 25 percent would plant to meet goals. Inspectors were appointed to monthly check CCC bin sites. list of inspectors from multiple towns was given.
