Fragmented reflection on eras and the gay Nineties
The speaker contrasts four decades with two or three past decades colored by idealized images of a world gone wrong, suggesting a struggle to understand the term gay in historical context and cultural memory. The tone recalls a Times perspective on nostalgia and societal change.

Corn Crop In North West Town Minnesota Harvest Underway
Harvesting of the bumper corn crop is well underway in northwest Town and southern Minnesota. The crop likely largest on many farms this section has ever produced. Plants dried and yellowed before killing frost, with severe wind and brittle ears causing some to snap and lie on the ground. Many fields require hand picking rather than machines. Last year about 80 percent of corn was machine harvested. this year about 60 percent will be hand gathered under tougher conditions. No labor shortage reported in Emmet county so far, though labor numbers are down.
